Note
  • you can email or mms a drop

Each drop has its own email address in the form of [dropname]@drop.io

If you send notes or attachments to the address from a computer, blackberry, or any email or MMS enabled phone they will be automatically deposited into your drop…. If you send an attachment (a file, pic, etc) and a note in the body of the email the 'note' becomes a comment on the attached file.

To make your drop’s email address private:

Add a Secret Key: If your drop is set so that users can ‘add’ to the drop then the email address of the drop is just [dropname]@drop.io… but if your drop is set so that others can only ‘view’ but not ‘add’ to the drop we automatically add a secret key into the email address, so that only you as the admin know how to email your drop – so your drop’s email address is [dropname].[secret]@drop.io – you can always change this from the admin panel to be whatever you want. You can add or change the ‘secret key’ to any drop - even view & add ones...(this can also prevent spam if you list your drop’s name on a public forum).

Use it to: A. send pictures directly to your drop from you email or mms enabled phone B. Copy your drop on an ongoing email chain to save and privately share a specific set of messages or attachments with a group C. Collect RSVPs to a party or event in one place, without cluttering your inbox. Even share who is attending… D. receive registrations to other websites (when you don’t want to give out your true email address)

Note that: 1. You can password protect your drop and still use this function (so you can keep your drop protected and still email in) 2. All the header information to the email (who it is to, from, etc) is discarded when we upload the email, we just save the subject line and the body.

You can also create a new drop via email/mms:

if you email new@drop.io and put in the subject line 'n:' you can create a new drop via email/mms on the fly.. just send in a message, and get a drop back

    to:  new@drop.io
    subject:  n:  [requested drop name]
    attachment:  [any file]
    body:  desired drop content

drop.io will respond letting you know that the drop has been created, as well as all the needed details to use the drop on the fly.
